Managing third-party vendors securely starts with knowing who can access what. Keep a record of each vendor’s accounts, the systems they can reach, who approved the access, and when it should be reviewed or removed. Where supported, use individually assigned accounts rather than sharing an employee’s login, so activity can be traced to the person performing the work.
Give vendors only the permissions needed for their tasks, and require multifactor authentication for remote network access and administrative accounts. Someone supporting one application shouldn’t automatically receive control over unrelated systems.
When a project ends, a vendor’s staff changes, or you switch providers, review the access involved. That can include more than a username: remote-support tools, connected applications, and access keys may need attention.
The goal isn’t to make working with vendors difficult. It’s to make sure their access matches the work you’ve actually agreed to.
