Not Every Cookie Is Worth Accepting

Most of us click “Accept all cookies” faster than we close pop‑ups. It feels harmless, a speed bump between us and what we actually want to see.

Some cookies are helpful. They remember your login, your language, and what was in your cart. Others are more like someone following you around the mall taking notes on every store you visit and everything you look at. Over time, that trail can say a lot about you, your business, and your habits.

Things to keep in mind:
🍪 “Necessary” cookies are usually fine. They keep the site working.
🍪 “Analytics” and “marketing” cookies are where heavy tracking tends to live.
🍪 For employees, all that tracking can help reveal patterns about which business apps, banking sites, and portals your company relies on, especially when combined with other data sources. That data can feed more targeted scams.

You do not need to panic about every cookie banner, but you also do not need to click “Accept all” by reflex. When you have the option, choose “Reject non‑essential” or “Customize” and turn off marketing/advertising cookies. On work devices, be extra picky.

SkyViewTek helps businesses set reasonable browser and privacy settings, train employees to be a little less “accept everything,” and reduce how much data they leak just by browsing the web. Contact Bernie Orglmeister at support@skyviewtek.com or 610‑590‑5006.
