The way you place and install your servers affects cooling, uptime, and how fast your IT team can help you. ⚙️
Here are a few best practices we follow when we design or clean up a server room for a client:
Keep servers in a dedicated room with controlled temperature, no windows when possible, and enough space to access both the front and back of the rack. ❄️🚪
Use proper rackmounts instead of desks or shelves so equipment is secure, organized, and easier to service or upgrade. 📦📏
Position servers so cool air flows in from the front and warm air exits out the back, and avoid installing equipment backwards so it does not pull in hot air. 🔁🧊
Separate hot and cold aisles where possible so hot exhaust never blows directly into other equipment’s air intake. ↔️🌡️
Plan cable routes so pathways stay clear, cables are labeled, and power and data are separated to reduce interference and accidental damage. 🧵📛
